Light-emitting diode (LED) uses the optical phenomenon electroluminescence to produce an intense glow much brighter than incandescent light. LED light sources operate with 30 - 60 milliwatts of electrical power, that's approximately 10% of the energy needed to power incandescent lights. LEDs (also called Solid State Lighting - SSL) are more resistant to electrical shock and vibratory impact and can last up to 100,000 hours, or nearly a decade of consistent use.
